Public works

Solid Waste

The county provides weekly household garbage collection for residences outside city limits.

Services

  • Weekly curbside household garbage collection
  • Starting, stopping or transferring service when you move
  • Requesting a replacement or additional cart
  • Garbage fee billing and payment
  • Reporting a missed pickup

Collection day

Have your cart at the roadside by 6:00 a.m. on your collection day, with the lid closed and the handle facing your house. Leave at least three feet of clearance around the cart so the truck's arm can reach it, and keep it away from mailboxes and parked vehicles.

What goes in the cart

Regular bagged household garbage only. Do not place the following in your cart:

  • Hot ashes, paint, motor oil, batteries or other hazardous material
  • Construction debris, lumber, roofing or concrete
  • Tires, appliances or furniture
  • Tree limbs, brush or yard waste
  • Dead animals

Bulky items and construction debris must be hauled to a permitted landfill or handled through a private hauler. Call the county office if you are unsure where an item should go.

Missed pickup

If your cart was out on time and was not emptied, call the county office and report it. Missed stops are usually collected the next working day.

Billing

Garbage service is billed to the household on a regular cycle. Accounts that fall behind are subject to suspension of service, so contact the office if you need to check a balance or correct a bill.
